About Me
Irwin Goldman is Professor of Horticulture at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a faculty member in the Plant Breeding and Plant Genetics program. He teaches courses in vegetable crops, plants and human wellbeing, indigenous foodways, and evolutionary biology. His research is focused on breeding and genetics of vegetable crops. His laboratory seeks to improve table beet, carrot, and onion germplasm through plant breeding and genetics research. They have released numerous inbred lines, cultivars, and improved populations of these crops over the past three decades. The Goldman lab currently has six graduate students and a postdoctoral research associate, along with four undergraduate students. We conduct our work at multiple farms and research stations across Wisconsin during each growing season, and in labs and greenhouses on the UW Madison campus throughout the year.
